Marta Nymsová – artist and designer
The exhibition dedicated to Marta Nymsová, an artist and textile designer, took place at the Běliště ethnographic exposition from 2 to 29 June 2025.
Marta Nymsová (1948–2022) was born in Blansko, but spent most of her life in Prague, with her final years in Liberec. The exhibition presented several fragments of her rich body of work. Nymsová was above all a textile artist – her path to textiles began with studying weaving design at the Secondary School of Textile Industry in Brno and continued through her work for prominent textile companies such as Tiba and the Institute of Home and Clothing Culture (ÚBOK) in Prague.
Since 1998, she had focused on independent artistic work, gaining recognition both in the Czech Republic and abroad. Her creations moved between abstraction and reality, between textile designs and painting, where shapes, symbols, and motifs of flowers and animals often met. This was already the second posthumous exhibition of her work held at the museum, this time focusing primarily on her textile designs. The exhibition offered a unique opportunity to enter the world of this distinctive figure of the Czech art scene.
