About the museum

We want to be a modern heritage institution, and so we fully identify with the definition of a museum adopted on 24 August, 2022 at the ICOM PRAGUE 2022 General Conference. “A museum is a not-for-profit, permanent institution in the service of society that researches, collects, conserves, interprets and exhibits tangible and intangible heritage. Open to the public, accessible and inclusive, museums foster diversity and sustainability. They operate and communicate ethically, professionally and with the participation of communities, offering varied experiences for education, enjoyment, reflection and knowledge sharing.”

Historie a současnost muzea Železný Brod

Past and Present

The Železný Brod Municipal Museum is today a natural centre of the memory of the Železný Brod glassmaking and a centre for the preservation and presentation of local folk culture. Currently, the museum is implementing the project Connected by Glass!, which will build a completely new interactive exhibition. The essence of the project is to revive the local glassmaking tradition by connecting it with other entities that work in the town and have something to do with glass. In addition to the project, we continue to engage in research and exhibition activities, organize various events and involve the general and professional public.
